pretty in pink

pastel3

I finally got around to watching "Pretty in Pink" last weekend because I was tired of not getting the references, mostly in Psych, which is the best show to watch while crafting - FYI. I enjoyed it, but it was totally different than what I was expecting - I loved Andie's co-worker and all her excellent costumes. My timing was ironic because Molly Ringwald guest starred in the next Psych episode I watched, so everything really came full circle. Anywhoo...

If you're actually in Tulsa, like me, you know that these pictures were absolutely not taken today. It's true, they weren't, but they've been in the hopper long enough to warrant posting.

Who knows what is going on with this collar thing, but it's cool, whatever it is. This is one of those pieces of vintage that really does seem to be timeless because it fits like a modern piece but is designed with true old school style. Excellent.

Last Monday I wrote about my goal to lose weight and I received so much supportive feedback. Thank you for reading and thank you for your support. It's gotten me through some workouts in the last week already!

It has been tempting for me not to style blog while I am trying to lose weight because I don't feel like I'm at my best, but I am trying to remember that feeling comfortable with myself is a choice not dictated to me by a scale. Do I want to lose some and will I work to do it? Yes. But is the day I reach my goal going to be some mythical day of perfect self esteem fulfillment? No. That day can be any day I chose for it to be.

So long story short, I'm still going to be style blogging. Hoo-rah.

blank CDs

bluevelvet3

My conversation with the salesman at Office Depot:

Him: Welcome to Office Depot! Can I help you find something?
Me: Yes, I need blank CDs.
Him: Oh cool! What for?
Me: My students.
Him: Oh, what do you teach?
Me: Musical theater.
Him: Like Glee? You're like the teacher from Glee?! YOU'RE LIKE THAT ONE TEACHER GUY FROM GLEE!
Me: Ummm... sure.
Him: You should be on that show too.
Me: Thanks, now, uhh, the CDs?
Him: Oh right! Over here...

He was way too excited. Just saying.

But I guess I understand - I was way too excited to wear this blue velvet skate skirt from, guess where?

The AMERICAN GIRL STORE.

It has just been a day of inexplicable excitement.

It even made me want to curtsey.

greensequin

Are you getting tired of summer clothes for fall yet? Well today is the last day, so cry in joy or pain, whichever makes more sense to you. The pieces today were a sequined tank top and a green jersey skirt. Here's how I wore these pieces over the summer in my post market uniform.

Now I know it doesn't look like I'm wearing the tank, but I am. It's actually peeking out at the shoulders, but my skin is so colorless it actually serves as a sort of sparkle top camouflage. If it was in person you could tell. Promise.

favorite colors

favoritecolors6

My favorite colors to wear are, in order, grey, camel, navy, brown, and mustard yellow, so I was pretty stoked about this outfit, being as it has all 5 - camel jacket, mustard shirt, grey skirt, navy tights, and brown boots! It is also the quintessential fall combo in my book and it went from church, to a meeting with friends, to a family dinner easily.

I hope you all had a good weekend! Husband and I rented all 4 Twilight movies on Saturday to watch them marathon style while completely picking apart every aspect of them and laughing like crazy people. It was a great way to spend a Saturday. If you like Twilight, I don't mean to offend you, but those movies are entertaining for all the opposite reasons they are intended to be.
It's almost genius in reverse.

And happy beginning of Thanksgiving week! I'll be back tomorrow with a tutorial for easy peasy walls that I use at craft fairs, which would also make great room  dividers!

market uniform

In the last week I have added several weekly markets to my schedule, and so my posting has become a bit more sporadic and I apologize. But the one thing I can tell you is that I always try and make my clothing choices interesting when I sell my jewelry, so I have at least two days a week that I'm bound to look decent and grab a picture.

Market was so fun today! Two of my nephews came with me to be my muscles and we had a great time. Made some new friends and met a touring boy band - and they actually bought stuff!

All my goodies all laid out and ready to sell!

Detail of my bracelet bar at market today.

I have been loving the daytime sequin look for awhile now, but I'm just trying it out today! It was definitely a hit with me, especially paired with my most blogged about skirt and belt!

double bubble

I was free writing the other day when it came to me - a bubble tunic, with a bubble skirt. I wasn't sure if it would work, but it seems like it did! This particular bubble tunic is so great, but it's always awkward to wear for some reason. Glad I found a new way to style it!

For those of you that know me in real life, you may have heard about my ankle issues of late. I'm pretty sure I sprained/twisted/made it mad at me by being awkward on a curb awhile ago, and it's still healing. So for those of you concerned, I only wore these heels for the photos. Is that cheating? Maybe, but it looks better with heels, and you betcha I would have worn them with it if the old ankle was up to it.

So go forth and pair unexpected things together, all the while being nice your ankles, because you know you want them to be nice to you.

earning my name

Clothes: all thrifted, necklace made by me.

I named this blog over a year ago when I was just hunting around for a new creative outlet, a place to put stuff I made, things I liked, and outfits I wore. I wanted a cool name, a unique name, but I didn't really think that hard about it. I'm not a major risk taker, in life or fashion, but the idea of putting my name on "Favor the Brave" appealed to me.

Fast forward a year or so and it's like the very name of my site is urging me to become the person I am meant to be, which, as always, requires great courage. At the risk of getting too cerebral in a post with pictures of clothes, find that thing you're afraid of and go do it. Go say hi to that guy, go apply for that job, go ask that question. Heck, go sing that song on karaoke night. Or in my case, wear that high waisted skirt even though my legs are too short and chop off those bangs.

 Life's too short people.

Just like me.

little bitta everything

I'm enjoying my week with my family going to the lake and eating good food.
And watching husband and my brothers play Super Mario Brothers.
And I'm actually going to go get back to that now.

And here's an outfit with a little bit of everything in it to hold you over.

these are the blues

I love the color blue, but for some reason I don't wear it very often, and I'm trying to consciously change that. Also, this outfit makes me feel like I'm wearing water which is pretty cool.

I'm on my way to Iowa today to spend the rest of the week with my lovely family and so I get to spend all day road tripping with husband. This is summertime.

And these are my blues, but they're the happy kind.

Outfit: all thrifted

redesign

It was a redesign kind of weekend. New hair color (don't worry if you didn't notice, it's not that big a difference - I won't feel bad!), new bangs, and a blog redo.  And I'm even wearing something that's not a dress. I figure go big or go home when you're changin' stuff.

Clothes and shoes: all thrifted, earrings by me - get similar here!

I'm all about bangs with side braids.
Prepare for this to be all I do with my hair in the near future.

What do you guys think of all the changes?

peace&love,
Jill
