I have always loved to draw with words and so I have decided to challenge myself to share at least one illustration of a quote each week with you, my dear readers.  Today's quote is from H. Jackson Brown Jr., "When you can't change the direction of the wind - adjust your sails."

All of my illustrations will be free for your personal use. To download the full size picture you can visit this link. Please attribute where you got them from if you share.

Hope you have an inspired Tuesday!

get out the vote for Favoring Brave!

Favoring Brave's booth at a recent show in Tulsa.

Hi friends!

I think it's horribly obnoxious how companies think it's a good idea to do every contest by voting now, but it is what it is. I am writing you today to ask a favor - to vote for me in a competition to win a free booth space for my business, Favoring Brave, at a huge show in the hometown, Tulsa, Ok.

Here is the link to vote on Facebook - make sure you're logged in to vote. Just two clicks!

A little bit about what this means - I currently work full time as an artist, but that is becoming harder and harder to do. It looks like I might have to go back to work if I don't find some more avenues to share my work with potential buyers. This show could save the full time status of my business, as I would be able to be a vendor at this show 4 times a year after having been accepted this once through winning. Someone virtually has to die to make space in this show and this is my  ONE shot!

Please vote. It take one click on the link and one click on my entry - Favoring Brave by Jill Simons. Also, please consider sharing this with YOUR friends. Together, we can make this happen.

sunrise

indian3

There's nothing quite like a little yoga in gold wedge sneakers and a vintage cutout tunic. All these colors make me feel like a sunrise, and this happens to be one of those few outfits I have actually worn a couple times already. These wedges were my present to myself at the end of the first week of Revolt and I love them.

pretty in pink

pastel3

I finally got around to watching "Pretty in Pink" last weekend because I was tired of not getting the references, mostly in Psych, which is the best show to watch while crafting - FYI. I enjoyed it, but it was totally different than what I was expecting - I loved Andie's co-worker and all her excellent costumes. My timing was ironic because Molly Ringwald guest starred in the next Psych episode I watched, so everything really came full circle. Anywhoo...

If you're actually in Tulsa, like me, you know that these pictures were absolutely not taken today. It's true, they weren't, but they've been in the hopper long enough to warrant posting.

Who knows what is going on with this collar thing, but it's cool, whatever it is. This is one of those pieces of vintage that really does seem to be timeless because it fits like a modern piece but is designed with true old school style. Excellent.

I have always loved to draw with words and so I have decided to challenge myself to share at least one illustration of a quote each week with you, my dear readers.  Today is a gem from John Updike, "You cannot help but learn more as you take the world into your hands. Take it up reverently for it is an old piece of clay, the millions of thumb prints on it."

revolt diaries: make it your own

Here's the thing about weight loss, people.

It's hard.

No wonder there are so many quick fix products on the market! It seems like everyone wants to lose a little without putting in the time and the hard work. And as one who is in the process of putting in the hard work, I have to say, it can be easy to think, Gee, I look okay... Maybe I don't need to do this after all! FREEDOM! Bread, brownies, pasta, and malted milk balls! And so you fall off the wagon for awhile. That's happened to me a couple times during this first Uprising with Revolt Now Fitness.

Revolt Now is a wonderful program. It takes all the guess work out of losing weight - the eating plan is detailed and clear, the workouts are quick and well explained, but that doesn't make actually FOLLOWING it any easier. The meal plans are right there, but there's no one coming to your house and feeding them to you. The workouts are quick but that means they're anything but easy. I have been sore most of the time for the better part of 6 weeks. And so, at the end of the day, losing weight is just as much, if not more, about YOU and your DECISION to do this than the plan you have at your disposal.

So here is my halfway revelation about Revolt - If you've made the choice and you are going to see it through, Revolt will get you there. But if you're wishy-washy, it's going to be hard road - and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Growth is hard - ask the mom of a teething baby. Change is hard - ask someone who's trying to quick smoking. So if you're ready to grow, why don't you jump on our Revolt team for the next Uprising? Join Nichole, me, and lots of other bloggers, and new friends for 6 weeks of growing. We'd love to have you.

pretty pirate

prettypirate6

Some times, you just feel like doing something crazy, like dressing like a pirate. How exactly could one wear this shirt without piratey-ness? I wouldn't know. Today my mental energy is absorbed by getting ready for Zeleny in Springfield tonight! Yikes! Lots of work to do!

zeleny!

ecoFB

I had a blast at Zeleny Arts and Craft Fair last weekend in Parkville, MO, just north of Kansas City, and I am so excited to be going to their second show of the season in Springfield, MO this coming weekend! We'll be downtown at the Squidfoo gallery during the First Friday art walk on Friday night and also on Saturday from 10-5. If you're in the area, come see me. Here's the link to the Zeleny Springfield Facebook event.

Everything in my booth I made by hand and it was all with recycled materials to boot! It was fun to adapt to a new space (8x8 instead of 10x10) with new work! Beaded jewelry had been my calling card since I started my business in 2005, but I hardly brought any last weekend - such an odd feeling!

I hope some of you can come out to Zeleny Springfield this weekend!

do work

seventieswork9
Shirt, Dress and Belt: vintage and thrifted, shoes also thrifted, Necklace by Favoring Brave

I am not working an office job anymore, but every once and awhile I like to dress up like I do. This shirt screams 70s like few things do, and this dress is just the bomb. I am such a fan of high necked dresses where the straps really hug the neckline too - great for someone with my build.

I am continuing to go through the Revolt Now fitness program and it is kind of kicking my butt. I have been sore every day for the last 5 weeks, and I have 7 weeks to go. I am starting to notice some more definition in my arms and legs, which has literally NEVER been the case before. I'll keep you updated on how it's going as I reach the 1/2 mark!

Before we get to our illustration for the day, I would love it if you took a moment and voted for the above necklace design on Shopbevel - if it gets enough votes, it will be available for production through them early this summer. It would be a total dream come true and you could make it happen for me! You can either create an account or just use your Facebook login to vote.

I have always loved to draw with words and so I have decided to challenge myself to share at least one illustration of a quote each week with you, my dear readers.  Today is a gem from J. M. Barrie , in Finding Neverland, "Just a dog? Porthos dreams of being a bear, and you want to shatter those dreams by saying he's just a dog? What a horrible candle-snuffing word. That's like saying, "He can't climb a mountain, he's just a man," or "That's not a diamond, it's just a rock. Just."
