a girl and her satchel

Husband (!) and I went garage saleing (is that a word?) last weekend to find furniture, because it is now inexplicably exciting to us to be all grown up like that, and instead we came home with a huge print of the philosophers at Athens for the dining room and this lovely red bag.

It was love at first sight. It made me want to come home and clean out my collection of superfluous purses because they would all lose their luster next to this red leather drop of perfection. It has the perfect number of pockets, the perfect depth for a magazine (or small business tax permit forms, as was the case today), and the perfect built in organizational systems. This is a serious relationship we got going on right now.

Also I felt like wearing houndstooth and velvet together today to the office, so that's fun.

Clearly faces are not important to me... oh well. You know what I look like anyway.

Jill

to have and to hold

Every blushing bride needs a bunch of flowers to hold on to, and I was no exception. But I am the exception in the fact that I get to keep my flowers, looking just as fresh as ever, for as long as I like. Like what you see? Tutorials for most of them coming soon!

The vase was a wedding present from my aunt and uncle, the rosary was a gift from my grandma. All flowers handmade by me.

married.

Well, we did it.

And now my project is this blog.
This blog, and finding what I want to do with my life, since I know who I want to do it with.

So here's to new beginnings, trusting God, and favoring the brave.

calm before the storm

I'll be a Mrs. in 12 days.

Hence the silence on my blog. If you weren't aware, it's very time consuming to plan a wedding.
But never fear. My plan to is come back afterward even more active than I've been before. I have lots of big ideas for this blog and I'm excited to get started on them!

The adorable clothespin replicas of John and I are a favorite gift from John's fellow teacher.

have courage

This is my Angel of Courage. It was a gift from my 7th grade math teacher when I was preparing to move midway through the year to a new school. I've always kept it with me, ever since. It is one of the only purely decorative items that keeps making the cut to come to college each year, and it always sits right on my desk where I can see it, even now.

Moving at 12 is hard for a kid, but it made me stronger. Courage is really about doing what your afraid to do because you know you need to. It has nothing to do with the fear you feel, only the way you act.

Moving at 21 is plenty scary, and I still need to have courage. I need to walk into all these job interviews (two today!), learn to drive in crazy traffic, and try to follow God's will for my life with courage, even when I don't know what is going to happen. I have felt the fear, but I have not been mastered by it.

So once again, here is my re-commitment to being courageous--in the big, and in the small.
Favor the brave. Do what makes you stronger, and don't give up.

peace&love,
Jill
