dog days

It's so hot.

I barely want to leave the air conditioning much less put on real clothes. That's where dresses like this come in - very little body touching involved. I wear a belt only to give me so semblance of a shape, but let's be real - I don't see the belt lasting until lunch.

It's so much fun to have bangs again, but the heat is not really bang friendly. And therefore I am justified in holing up at home and making resin pendants. Stay cool!

wedding files: our guestbook

Slowly I am processing all the pictures from my wedding so that I can share them with you all.

One piece that I definitely wanted to share was our guestbook. Instead of a traditional guest book we cut pieces of scrapbooking paper and left them on the guestbook table with plum and blue permanent markers for our guests to write notes to us with words of advice or encouragement.

Those notes were displayed with clothespins on twine during the reception under the banners I had made that spelled out "Share the Love." Afterward I gathered them all up and I'm going to use them in the scrapbook I make with all our wedding photos! Cool, huh?

A dear friend of ours manned the guestbook table and explained the idea to people. I love how it turned out!

I'm just waiting on our official wedding photos to make our scrapbook and then I'll share it with you all!
What great guestbook ideas do you have?

Jill

redesign

It was a redesign kind of weekend. New hair color (don't worry if you didn't notice, it's not that big a difference - I won't feel bad!), new bangs, and a blog redo.  And I'm even wearing something that's not a dress. I figure go big or go home when you're changin' stuff.

Clothes and shoes: all thrifted, earrings by me - get similar here!

I'm all about bangs with side braids.
Prepare for this to be all I do with my hair in the near future.

What do you guys think of all the changes?

Jill

sharpen that pencil

I think everyone can draw. Some better than others, obviously, but everyone can draw something. Drawing is my way to exercise the forgotten part of the creative side of my brain. So whatever you do, try something else today. If you're a painter, try taking some photographs. If you're a singer, try writing. If your an actor, try painting. Shake up the creative juices... they tend to settle when stored.

I'm hoping my inspiring words will distract you from the fact that I have worn short dresses with belts three times already this week. What can I say? It's Oklahoma, it's wicked hot, and layers seem a far-off memory. And maybe my creative juices have settled a little too.

But you forgive me, right?

peace&love,
Jill

dance in the rain

Yesterday was perfect.

John and I saw Brave in the afternoon and then sat on our balcony while the weather tried to make up it's mind about what to do with itself. It ended up sprinkling, stopping, raining, and then giving up. There was some quality thunder in there too. As we were sitting there, kicking our legs off the balcony, we had a wonderful talk about the meaning of life and dancing in the rain.

Then we ate Japanese leftovers and watched Arrested Development

Perfect.

Excuse the weird yellow marks on my left arm. It's pollen. I had just helped some dying flowers into a trash bag. Not the most glamorous thing ever.

Hope you're having a good weekend!

Jill

happy birthday husband

I love my husband very much and so I made him this cake replica of the cover of The Amazing Spider-man 300, which was the 25th anniversary cover, for his 25th birthday yesterday. And for all you non-geeks, this is the original cover:

Not bad, huh?
It was an - adventure. A fun, frosting-y adventure.
