sunrise

indian3

There's nothing quite like a little yoga in gold wedge sneakers and a vintage cutout tunic. All these colors make me feel like a sunrise, and this happens to be one of those few outfits I have actually worn a couple times already. These wedges were my present to myself at the end of the first week of Revolt and I love them.

I'm off to the Tulsa Garden Center this afternoon for their Spring Fest preview - if you're in the Tulsa area and have been looking to get yourself some Favoring Brave, this is the time to get it!

pretty in pink

pastel3

I finally got around to watching "Pretty in Pink" last weekend because I was tired of not getting the references, mostly in Psych, which is the best show to watch while crafting - FYI. I enjoyed it, but it was totally different than what I was expecting - I loved Andie's co-worker and all her excellent costumes. My timing was ironic because Molly Ringwald guest starred in the next Psych episode I watched, so everything really came full circle. Anywhoo...

If you're actually in Tulsa, like me, you know that these pictures were absolutely not taken today. It's true, they weren't, but they've been in the hopper long enough to warrant posting.

Who knows what is going on with this collar thing, but it's cool, whatever it is. This is one of those pieces of vintage that really does seem to be timeless because it fits like a modern piece but is designed with true old school style. Excellent.

pretty pirate

prettypirate6

Some times, you just feel like doing something crazy, like dressing like a pirate. How exactly could one wear this shirt without piratey-ness? I wouldn't know. Today my mental energy is absorbed by getting ready for Zeleny in Springfield tonight! Yikes! Lots of work to do!

do work

Shirt, Dress and Belt: vintage and thrifted, shoes also thrifted, Necklace by Favoring Brave

I am not working an office job anymore, but every once and awhile I like to dress up like I do. This shirt screams 70s like few things do, and this dress is just the bomb. I am such a fan of high necked dresses where the straps really hug the neckline too - great for someone with my build.

I am continuing to go through the Revolt Now fitness program and it is kind of kicking my butt. I have been sore every day for the last 5 weeks, and I have 7 weeks to go. I am starting to notice some more definition in my arms and legs, which has literally NEVER been the case before. I'll keep you updated on how it's going as I reach the 1/2 mark!

it's beginning to look a lot like springtime

springtime

When I went out the door yesterday, I heaved a great sigh of satisfaction. That certain something was in the air, and that something was spring! I have had a kind of rough week, but it all seemed to wash away with the first spring breeze.

And also - we have a new pope! I am a lifelong, committed Catholic and I am thrilled about the choice made in Pope Francis! I can not wait to learn more about him and see how God will use him in the world right now.

Tomorrow evening starts spring break and it's also my birthday tomorrow so things are looking up all over the place! Happy Thursday!

The Five (Often Forgotten) Things Every Girl Needs in Her Closet

There are tons of lists on the internet of the 5, 10, 50, or 100 things every girl needs to have in her closet, but I find they're rather repetitive and often straight up unhelpful. A $200 Hermes scarf? On the HAVE TO HAVE list? I think I'm doing okay without it, thanks.

So here is my short list of things that people forget about that can make all the difference when you're getting dressed in the morning. Having them handy can keep you happy every day of the year.

1. A dress you can wear anywhere.

You're traveling and you don't know if you'll be going out for cocktails, spending the day sight-seeing, or crashing in the hotel. You need one thing you can wear and it will work for everything. A lot of women prefer black, but for me, it's a grey jersey tank dress with some well placed gathering. A few accessories and it's always ready to go. I would highly suggest a jersey dress, though--it will travel well, drape beautifully, and be super comfortable.

2. Sunglasses that suit your face.

I have one of the squarest square faces you will ever come across and so I cannot, shocking I know, wear square sunglasses. Aviators usually work best for me but there aren't really hard and fast rules on this that I can see. I am giving you permission to take your best friend to the store and try on sunglasses for as long as it takes. You're welcome.

3.Warm and cute boot/knee high socks.

If you're wearing boots and your feet are warm and not being constantly troubled by ankle socks bunched up around your arch, you will be happy. It's worth it ladies, believe me. Remember: Warm = happy in almost all situations.

4. A couple slips.

I know, I know. It's 2012 and you're under 40. You don't think you need a slip. But you do. At least one full dress slip, one short skirt slip, and one that fits tighter than a glove but makes your trouble spots completely disappear. Do not underestimate the power of these garments. You're life will seriously not be the same, and those clothes you only pull out every so often? They'll fit every time.

5. A thing that always makes you feel like yourself.

I don't care what it is. But it has to be completely, totally, and quintessentially you. Something that you can throw on/grab when you're wearing sweatpants and a tee-shirt that will make you feel good about how you look. For me it's a worn-in camel leather carry-all that has all my goodies in it, and usually a vintage scarf tied on somewhere. Or a big pair of earrings I made myself. It's a toss up.

So that's my list... What's yours?

Electric

Sweater: thrifted, Gap; Pants: thrifted, Gloria Vanderbilt; Boots: Payless

I am slowly getting less allergic to color. This sweater is my Exhibit A.
And I didn't even have to accessorize the heck out of it. That's a good sweater people.
Cozy, cute, and stand alone. And electric blue. That helps too.

Competitive

Sweater: thrifted, Gap; Scarf: thrifted, Charlotte Russe; Pants: thrifted, Gloria Vanderbilt, Boots: Charlotte Russe

Something about these prints together makes me happy even if they do seem to fight each other a little bit. It was a grey and cold first day back at school after a break and I needed something to make me happy and this did the trick.

Making homemade Hawaiian stuffed crust pizza for dinner didn't hurt either.

Stay warm!

Let's Do This

Blouse: thrifted; skirt: thrifted; Tights: Hue

(Bah indoor pictures and visible remotes. Forgive me. My brain is fried.)

I'm back at school for the last time.
Two weeks to graduation.
Let's do this.

Almost There

Top (actually a dress): Old Navy; Belt: thrifted; Skirt: thrifted; Leggings: TJ Maxx; Boots: Charlotte Russe

I woke up with a big sigh of relief on my lips. Thank God it is Friday.
What a long (but good!) week. Only two days of school until Thanksgiving and that break cannot come too soon. Five wonderful days with fiance and my family. Alleluia.

I picked up the pieces for these earrings at a flea market. Such a find.

I was equally proud of this belt, partially because I really do like the color yellow but never get to wear it because my skin is Scottish, and partially because the buckle is just really cool.

Here's to Fridays and great finds.

Almost Upon Us

Loving this mild weather, but it makes it hard to believe that it's almost the holiday season. Today was almost warm! I am loving my second full day of freedom and I got a box full of yummy vintage dresses  from Smashion to try on. Tonight the plan is to read lots of articles about Communism and Linguistics, clean my room and study the entire history of literature in the English language.
You know, just another night.

John bought me this skirt this weekend on a thrifting adventure and it very well may be my new favorite piece in my closet.
He also picked out yellow shoes for me.
This boy has serious potential.

Boots: Charotte Russe; Leggings: TJ Maxx; Skirt: thrifted; Lace Tank: gift; Cardi: Target; Necklace: Jewelry by Jill

And I got a haircut! My treat to myself after surviving a week of performing.

Jill
